Groupon has acquired CityDeal, a European competitor of the group coupon service company. Now Groupon is available in 18 countries and 140 cities. The company now has about 900 employees. [VentureBeat]

General Motors has hit $865 million in the first quarter of this year that ended in March. This is the company’s first quarterly profit in nearly 3 years. During the same period last year, GM reported a $6 billion loss. General Motors was given a life-line when the government gave them $50 billion to stay in business. GM repaid $6.7 billion of he loan so far and hopes to pay a lot more back with a stock sale. The U.S. government owns 61% of GM. [Lansing State Journal]

Booyah is the parent company of the MyTown location-based check-in service that competes directly with Gowalla and Foursquare. Booyah has raised $20 million in funding from Accel, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and DAG Ventures. Accel partner Jim Breyer will be joining the board of directors at Booyah.

Digitimes Research analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that manufacturing company Foxconn has about 24 million Apple iPhone 4G units ready for shipping in 2010. Foxconn will ship 4.5 million units in the first half and 19.5 million units for the rest of 2010.


HTC has revealed a new smartphone to the market called the HTC Wildfire — this device will be replacing the HTC Tattoo. The HTC Wildfire has a 3.2″ QVGA capacitive touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash. It also runs on the European 3G/UMTS support.


Happynin Games Inc. is a company that spun out of the USC GamePipe Laboratory program. The company created a game called fowlplay, which focuses on a pigeon flying around and pooping on people walking around in a park below.
