Twitter now has two ways of making money so far and they are considering a third option: Trending Topics. The first two ways Twitter is making money is a search licensing deal with Microsoft and Google along with a Promoted Tweets ad platform.

Twitter is currently discussing Promoted Trends with advertisers, but this idea is in early stages. How much would Twitter charge to set up a trending topic for an advertiser on the homepage? “Tens of thousands of dollars” for exclusive placement.
