SanDisk has started shipping an SD card called the WORM (write once read many) that can write once and store images and data for at least 100 years.  SanDisk sold its WORM SD card to Japan’s National Polcie so far.

The SD WORM card lets law enforcement officers “create unalterable, permanent photographic records that serve as resources during investigations or as potential evidence during trials.”  SanDisk is targeting law enforcement agencies for this product, especially for forensic images.  Forensic images are typically stored on 35mm film which can end up degrading.
