Google Stops Redirecting Google.cn To Google.hk

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) made an announcement back in January that said that they have decided to no longer censor results on Google.cn, the Chinese version of their search engine. Three months after that, Google started redirecting Google.cn traffic to Google.hk, the Hong Kong version of their website.

The Chinese government was not happy with this so they responded by saying
that if Google does not censor their content, then they will not be able to renew their Internet Content Provider license on June 30th — meaning Google.cn will go offline.

Now Google.cn will be censored, but there is a link on the homepage to Google.hk which will remained to have uncensored content. The shutting down of Google.cn would be a “prospect dreaded by many of our Chinese users,” according to Google Chief Legal Officer David Drummond.
