AT&T has just sent out a memo about how they have detected a joint software defect with Alcatel-Lucent that is causing upload speeds to slow down. In some markets, iPhone 4 users have complained about slow upload speeds in HSPA-equipped AT&T markets. Speeds that have had over 1Mbps during the holiday weekend have noticed speeds dropping below 100kbps. However these conditions affected “less than two percent” of AT&T customers. Ars Technica did a JavaScript benchmark test on the iOS 4 on the iPhone 4 and Android 2.2 on the Nexus One. Based on the SunSpider and V8 tests, it was revealed that Android 2.2 (Froyo) is three times faster than the previous version of the Android OS. It turns out that the Android device has faster JavaScript execution than the iPhone 4. In the spirit of being competitive, it’d be interesting to see if or how Apple responds to this test. Today YouTube has announced a new movie called “Life in a Day.” On July 24th, anyone that uploads a video within 24 hours of that day and submits footage to the “Life in a Day” channel might see it added to the movie. Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald will direct the “Life in a Day” movie. Ridley Scott, the director of films such as Black Hawk Down and Gladiator will be the executive producer of “Life in a Day.”

Paul Barrett was ordered to pay £5,000 ($7,588) as ordered by a judge for breaches of fair trade regulations. Barrett lives in Durham, England. He is also being told to do 250 hours of unpaid work.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has banned Thuat Nguyen from the App Store because of fraud. Nguyen managed to get the top 42 of the top 50 sales positions in the Book category of the App Store through “fraudulent purchase patterns.” Apple also mentioned that if your credit card or iTunes password was stolen, they recommend you contact your bank and issue a chargeback.
