Dell Accidentally Shipped Some Server Motherboards With Malicious Software

Dell is warning a small number of customers that they have shipped a small number of customers that the PowerEdge R410 server motherboards may have malicious software.
“The potential issue involves a small number of PowerEdge server motherboards sent out through service dispatches that may contain malware,” stated Dell on a support forum. “This malware code has been detected on the embedded server management firmware.”

Szymon Weglarski and Jon Dorfman, two designers that live in Brooklyn launched a new product on Etsy called the Antenn-aid.  Antenn-aids are little bandages in different colors.
Szymon and Jon put the product up for sale on Friday and they are receiving an order every minute.  “We haven’t done any official testing, but it does seem to improve the antenna problem,” said Weglarski. “You don’t drop as many bars as it’s really about separating metal from flesh.”  Clever idea, guys. [New York Times]

Redbox May Take Services Online

This coming October, Redbox may try taking their services online, thus challenging Netflix at their game.  However it is unclear whether Redbox plans to do direct downloads, streaming videos, or if they will provide a DVD-by-mail service.  Redbox currently has about 24,000 dispenser kiosks across the U.S.  Each machine hosts about 200 titles.  Netflix has around 100,000 titles to choose from. Founders Fund, the venture capital company that has invested in Facebook, Spotify, and SpaceX has closed a third venture fund.  The Founders Fund III LP and the other funds were oversubscribed, reaching a firm cap of $250 million in commitments.  The Fund III suite is the company’s largest fund yet.  Founders Fund is managed by Peter Thiel, Ken Howery, Luke Nosek, and Sean Parker.  The full press release is below:

According to a report by CNET, Blogetery.com was shut down for allegedly hosting al-Qaeda materials. Initially details were scarce about why WordPress platform and hosting company Blogetery.com was shut down, taking out 70,000 blogs with them. BurstNet CTO Joe Marr said that FBI agents informed executives that al-Qaeda was distributing materials on Blogetery servers that included names of American citizens targeted for assassination by al-Qaeda.

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has announced that the sales of e-books for their Kindle e-reader product has outsold the number of the hardcover books during the last three months. Amazon.com sold 143 Kindle books for every 100 hardcover books.

Nokia Corporation has launched a search to find a new CEO. As the head of Nokia, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo is having a hard time gaining traction in the smartphone market. “They are serious about making a change,” said a source with the WSJ. The board members at Nokia are “supposed to make a decision by the end of the month,” added the source. Kallasuvo has been CEO of the company since 2006. [WSJ]
