Tumblr is growing at a rapid pace. They hit 6 million users and just hit about 1.5 billion pageviews per month (Quantcast). About a year ago, Tumblr saw about 255 million pageviews. In November of last year, it was up to 420 million pageviews.

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) is rumored to have an interest in buying New York based URL shortening and tracking company Bit.ly. The talks are still in early stages. However if Bit.ly plans to sell, we could expect it to go for over $10 million given that they raised $3.5 million in VC funding from Ron Conway and other angel investors.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has acquired Metaweb, a company that develops the open, shared database platform called Freebase. Metaweb was founded by Danny Hillis and Robert Cook in 2005. Metaweb raised $57.5 million in funding over two rounds. Investors include Benchmark Capital, Millennium Technology Ventures, Goldman Sachs, and Omidyar Network. Google said that the Freebase database will remain open and free. [VentureBeat]

Check-in geolocation service Foursquare has grown at a rapid pace. The data collected by Foursquare is valuable because it harvests information about how often people visit a specific establishment. Now Foursquare has the interest of Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo! “Our data generates hugely interesting trends which would enrich search,” stated Foursquare co-founder Dennis Crowley, who previously sold a company to Google.

Nokia Siemens Networks Acquiring Motorola’s Wireless Network Assets For $1.2 Billion

Nokia Siemens Networks and Motorola, Inc. has announced that the two companies have entered an agreement.  Nokia will spend $1.2 billion to acquire the majority of Motorola’s wireless network infrastructure assets for $1.2 billion in cash.  Both companies expect the deal to close at the end of 2010. Full press release below:
