Larry Ellison Loses Bid For Golden State Warriors


Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ:ORCL) co-founder Larry Ellison lost a bid to buy out the Golden State Warriors NBA team. The person who won ownership is Joseph Lacob, a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Lacob also has part ownership in the Boston Celtics NBA team.

Google’s Revenue Increases 24%


Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has released their earnings for the second quarters and it is up 24% during the same period last year. Google made $5.1 billion in revenue. Google’s company cash and short-term investments rose to $30.1 billion during the second quarter and they had $26.5 billion in the first quarter. This is up from $24.5 billion they had at the end of last year. [BusinessWeek]

Discovery Communications Files Lawsuit Against Amazon.com


Discovery Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:DISCA) has filed a lawsuit against Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). Discovery Communications said that this is a procedural move and not a new lawsuit.

News Corporation social subsidiary MySpace is acquiring social messaging service Threadbox. “We’re thrilled to announce that the talented Threadbox team has joined MySpace. We’re in active discussions about how we can incorporate their innovative technology into our site,” said a MySpace spokesperson.

Chatroulette Launches Local and Themed Channels


Webcam speed dating service Chatroulette has launched two new features this past week. The two new features include Channelroulette, a themed channel and Localroulette, a localized version of the website. Localroulette automatically connects people to local editions of Chatroulette based on the IP address. Chatroulette shows the most popular custom channels on their website. Chatroulette received 1.1 million unique visitors in May. [NewTeeVee]

The Washington Post Buys iCurrent


The Washington Post Company has bought out iCurrent, a service where people can view news according to their interests. There is no word on what the acquisition price, but VentureBeat speculates that it is above $5 million. iCurrent was funded by Crosslink Capital, who plugged in about $3 million since the news company started in 2007. Apple Getting Ready To Launch The New MacBook Air and iPod Touch


Apple has began to develop the new 11.6-inch MacBook Air and the next generation iPod Touch. The new Macbook is expected to have an even slimmer design with a 11.6 inch-display and will contain features such as an Intel Core i-series ultra-low voltage processor. Although they are anticipated to do well in the market, Apple is only expected to release 400,000 units of the MacBook Air sometime in the second half of 2010. The next generation iPod Touch will contain have a 3-megapixel camera, which will be capable of both photo and video recordings. There may also be other newer features, including a “non-phone” version of Apple’s FaceTime. The iPod touch is expected to be released sometime in August or September and Apple is expected to produce 17-18 million units of the new device. [DigiTimes]
