Microsoft Office For Mac 2011 Arriving This October

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has announced that the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 suite is arriving this October.  What is noticeable about the announcement is that the costs of the software suite are particularly low.  The cost of the software suite is 20-50% lower according to PCWorld.  Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 costs about $119 per single license.  The family pack costs $149.  The 2008 Home and Student Edition was $149.

If you think this price drop is not that much of a difference, let’s look at the price of the Professional editions.  The professional edition of Office 2011 for the Mac is $199 for a single license and $279 for two machines.  The business version of Office 2008 was $399.

Most people would speculate right away that Google Docs is taking away from Microsoft’s market share, thus causing Microsoft to drop the prices.  But the PC versions of the software suite did not see as much of a drop.  Perhaps Microsoft has less control on price setting of their office software suite when licensing it to Apple.
