One Million Phone Calls Made Through Gmail In 24 Hours

Yesterday the Gmail team at Google announced a new feature that involves the ability to make calls anywhere in the U.S. or Canada for free until the end of 2010. The calls must be made through Gmail and you are required to have a microphone and speakers to make the call. The response to this was overwhelming!

Today Google announced that 1 million calls were made through Gmail in a span of 24 hours. Google is able to subsidize these calls because of what they charge for international rates. And even their international rates are cheap too! This is great if you love to chat with family and friends abroad. However this Gmail feature is currently only available to U.S. users.
