Netflix and EPIX Announce Partnership

Recently, Netflix has announced a possible deal with the startup paid-TV channel Epix. This deal would give Netflix the exclusive online rights to films from its three equity partners – Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate, and MGM. The deal would also allow Netflix subscribers to watch movies such as “Iron Man 2,” “Dinner for Schmucks,” and “The Expendables” through the company’s interent streaming service.

Google and Verizon’s Controversial Policy Framework Proposal

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Verizon Communications have announced a “policy framework.” The deal is that Verizon would be able to speed online content to certain Internet users if they are willing to pay for it according to The New York Times. A lot of people are outraged by this because the Internet has been a level playing field where content used by everybody moved around the same speeds depending on your ISP.

HP CEO Mark Hurd Steps Down After Sexual Harassment Claim

Mark Hurd is stepping down from HP after a sexual harassment claim has been made. He resigned and the HP committee is searching for a replacement. Cathie Lesjak, HP’s CFO will be the interim CEO. Hurd is getting a $12.2 million separation package upon his departure. HP board member Marc Andreessen will help the company find the next CEO. [ZDNet]
Investopedia Sold For $42 Million

Investopedia has been sold to ValueClick for $42 million in cash. Investopedia was founded in 1999 and ValueClick bought it because of their content, traffic, team, and ad company partnerships. Forbes put Investopedia up for sale in June.

Apple Applies For Glass Store Trademark

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has applied for a trademark on their signature Glass Store architecture in New York City. The trademark application was filed on August 4, 2010 and is under the TEAS Plus Application 85097331. Apple previously filed for a trademark on the in-store glass staircase. BlackBerry Torch To Sell On AT&T For $199.99 On August 12

RIM will start selling the BlackBerry Torch 9800 for $199.99 on August 12th through AT&T with a 2 year contract. The phone is also being sold at Best Buy, RadioShack, and Wal-Mart. The Torch has a 3.2″ 360×480 touchscreen, 4.4×2.4×0.57″ dimensions, 5.68 oz. weight, optical trackpad, 4GB flash memory, and 4GB MicroSD card included. There is also a 5 megapixel camera with flash. It can record 640×480 video and it comes with the BlackBerry 6 operating system. The phone also has Bluetooth and 802.11b/g/n WiFi. The full press release is below:

FaceTime On 3G Consumes About 3MB Per Minute

This past weekend, a jailbreak was created for the iPhone 4. This allowed FaceTime calls to be made through the 3G network. I have no plans to jailbreak my iPhone because there is a major risk of your iPhone getting bricked if you do so. 9to5Mac decided to do a test to see how much data is consumed when using FaceTime over the 3G network. They did a 5 minute FaceTime call with lots of movement. It turns out that about 14.7MB was consumed — or 3MB per minute. [9to5Mac]
