Shortly after hiring Stephen Elop as President and CEO, a major executive at Nokia Corporation has stepped down. Anssi Vanjoki, the head of Nokia’s smartphone division has resigned. Vanjoki will remain for another 6 months to help with the transition.

This resignation comes at a time when Nokia’s smartphone market share dropped 37.4% in the second quarter. They were at 45% one year earlier.

Before running the smartphone division, Vanjoki helped build the Nokia brand, even coming up with the distinctive Nokia ringtone. He was the head of marketing and the chief of the multimedia division that introduced the N series phones with navigation, videos, and music.
