Harrisburg University of Science and Technology Blacking Out Social Media For A Week

Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is turning off social media for a week for all students in residence. This means no IM, Twitter, or Facebook for a week. The only form of electronic communication available will be e-mail. University Provost Eric Darr said he wants to have the temporary ban because he wants students to think about the impact that technology has in our daily lives.

“Often, there are behaviors or habits, ways that we use technology that we may ourselves not even be able to articulate because we’re not aware of them,” stated Darr. After the black out has ended, students are expected to write an essay about what they think about the ban. Students that use these services on mobile devices and live off-campus will not be affected.
