Twitter.com Gets A Redesign

Earlier this week Twitter announced a new version of Twitter.com at the company’s first-ever major press conference at their San Francisco headquarters. The new Twitter.com has launched for several users and will have a global roll out very soon. The new Twitter.com splits into two columns, each that fill half the page.

On the left is the timeline of tweets. When clicking on the link in a tweet, the right pane displays specific details about the conversation. This includes details about the conversation, replies, the location of the tweet, and media that is embedded. The media includes YouTube videos, TwitPics, Vimeos, Ustream, etc.

Twitter.com CEO Evan Williams called the new version of Twitter “a faster, easier and richer way to discover what’s new in your world” and “one of the best web apps you’ve ever seen.”

Twitter sees about 90 million tweet updates per day and 25% of them contain links. Twitter gets about 370,000 new sign-ups per day and 16% of that number is from mobile devices.
