Ez Texting and T-Mobile are currently in a legal battle that involves the blocking of text messages. Ez Texting filed a lawsuit on Friday for blocking SMS messages on the T-Mobile network. Here’s the back-story:
Ez Texting and Weedmaps.com have a text message relationship. Weedmaps.com helps people find legal medical marijuana dispensaries in California. Weedmaps.com partnered with Ez Texting to distribute opt-in SMS messages to users of their website. Ez was notified by users that SMS messages were being blocked on T-Mobile. The problem is that T-Mobile’s blocking of EZ Tracking’s text messages could result in the SMS company going out of business.
T-Mobile blamed Ez Texting for not following pre-defined processes as defined by the MMA’s U.S. Consmer Best Practices Guidelines for Cross-Carrier Mobile Content Programs. A hearing is set for Thursday September 30, 2010.
I wonder if that is considered freedom of speech. But where do you draw the line? Even if it's something criminal you allow it?
