AOL Acquires Thing Labs

AOL, Inc. (NYSE:AOL) has bought Thing Labs. Thing Labs developed the social media reader service Brizzly. Thing Labs head Jason Shellen will run AOL Lifestream, AIM, and Brizzly. He will be reporting to Brad Garlinghouse.

No word on how much the acquisition was worth, but it is pegged at about $30 million. Thinb Labs was founded in 2007 and received funding from Polar Venture Partners, Jeff Clavier, and MySpace CEO Michael Jones.

The Thing Labs acquisition announcement followed 5min Media and TechCrunch. Thing Labs also bought out two companies this past March, which was Wikirank and Twitter iPhone client Birdfeed.

One of Thing Labs’ most popular products was Brizzly Picnics. Brizzly Picnics is a group chat service that aggregates social media services.
