Earlier this week Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced Internet Explorer 9 in San Francisco. The browser has the fully hardware accelerated HTML5 experience built in to the new browser. CSS3 is also supported in the new browser.

Diaspora has written a blog post that showcases what the user interface looks like for their open-source social-network. Back when Diaspora first discussed their goals, they were calling themselves a Facebook competitor. The company received some press from The New York Times and raised $200,000 in crowd-sourced funding.

Yahoo Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) has announced that Yahoo! Connected TV will be added to the new line of HDTVs manufactured by Toshiba Corporation (TYO:6502). Yahoo! Connected TV will be on Toshiba’s 46″-55″ HDTVs, which includes the WX800 Cinema Series 3D LED. Yahoo! Connected TV currently has 65 Yahoo! TV Widgets available at the click of a button. Justin.tv now has a live video broadcasting service for the iPhone. This announcement was made about two weeks after Justin.tv was launched on the Android operating system. The Justin.tv 2.0 iPhone application not only has live streaming, but there is also chatting and Facebook/Twitter sharing features.

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) has acquired Aloqa, a private startup that develops location-based technology for mobile applications. The financial details was undisclosed. Aloqa raised $1.5 million in Series A from angel investors and Wellington Partners about a year ago.

Altec Lansing announced that the Octiv Duo will be shipping in October at a price of $99.95. The Octiv Duo will be able to charge a pair of two iOS devices at once. A third unit can be charged via USB connected to the dock as well. The Music Mix application works with the device. This means that songs can be played as shuffle between both devices. [Engadget]

Mobile web browser company Skyfire has seen about one million downloads from the Android Market store. Skyfire is capable of rendering Flash, making it easy for mobile users to view their favorite websites and videos.
