GOOG-411 Shutting Down On November 12

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is shutting down their 411 service on November 12. I’ll be honest when I say that I used this service very often, especially when driving. All you had to do was call the phone number, say the name of the city and state and the name of the business and you were instantly connected to the phone number. The service was a little buggy, but it got the job done. GOOG-411 launched back in 2007 and the search engine company is justifying the shut-down because they have “more ambitious services now available on smartphones” such as Voice Search, Voice Input, and Voice Actions. If you really enjoyed using this service and you don’t have an Android phone, I would recommend switching to Microsoft’s Bing 411. [Google Blog]
