Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) has invested $3 million into social gaming platform company Aurora Feint. Aurora is best known for creating OpenFeint, a game score platform commonly used on Apple iPhone and Google Android games. OpenFeint also gives gamers access to leaderboards, virtual currencies, and achievements.
Aurora Feint also released a technology called PlayTime. PlayTime lets users communicate when gaming through voice chat. OpenFeint currently has about 45 million users on their service.
Aurora plans to use the funding to expand their SDK for other mobile devices. With Apple’s release of the GameCenter platform, it will pose more of a competitive challenge for Aurora. But Aurora chairman Peter Relan said he isn’t worried because users want to be able to play games across a variety of devices from different manufactures.
