News Corporation (NASDAQ:NWSA) social network MySpace.com is in the center of controversy after it was revealed that user data has been leaked to advertising companies. The user data was sent primarily by MySpace when users clicked on ads.

MySpace received 58 million visitors in September. The data transmitted to advertising companies was MySpace users IDs. The user ID information can be used to look at a person’s profile page. This includes real names, photos, gender, age, and location. Quantcast, Rubicon Project, and Google received the personal data.

“It has recently come to our attention that several third-party app developers may have violated these terms and we are taking appropriate action against those developers,” stated a MySpace spokesman.
