Twenty year old Declan Sullivan, a junior from Long Grove, Illinois died at a hospital in South Bend after he was rushed there from a football tower that had collapsed from high winds. While Sullivan was on top of the tower, he sent out a tweet that said “Gust of wind up to 60mph well today will be fun at work … I guess I’ve lived long enough :-/” The message was posted to Facebook via Twitter as well.
He sent out another tweet that said “Holy fuck holy fuck this is terrifying” at 4:06PM. The camera tower collapsed at 4:50PM as winds in the area hit 51MPH.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Declan’s family and friends,” stated Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said in a statement. “Declan was a diligent student worker in our video department and had a tremendous personality and great sense of humor. He brightened the days for all that had the privilege to work with him, and the Notre Dame football family will dearly miss him.”
I believe that it is completely unacceptable for Declan to be called into work in the first place when there was such strong winds. He clearly did not want to be there out of concern for his own well-being. Declan will be missed.
