The Mozilla Foundation has cut 12-year old Alex Miller a $3,000 check for discovering bugs on the Firefox browser. Miller discovered a critical security flaw in the Firefox web browser. “A couple months ago we increased the amount of payment to a much more substantial $3,000, basically to reflect the change in the economy, and the marketplace, since the time the program was initiated,” stated Mozilla security program manager Brandon Sterne in an interview with Mercury News. Alex spent about 90 minutes per day for about 10 days searching for a flaw in the memory after finding something questionable in the initial search. He spent $100 from the check to make a donation to his neighbor’s nonprofit organization called Unconditional Love Animal Rescue. [Mercury News]

Fast forward about 18 years to October 2010. Sony has just announced that they will no longer be producing Sony Walkman devices in Japan after 30 years.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) continues their plight in showing their contempt towards Adobe Flash. The new MacBook Air devices are shipping with Adobe Flash Player installed. Sure it is easy to install it yourself, but this is the first time Apple decided to ship their computers without Flash already installed. John Gruber of Daring Fireball asked Apple if this will be the case for all Mac products going forward and they said yes. Adobe Flash does not work on iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices either. [Kathleen Madigan]
Last night I watched Kathleen Madigan doing some stand-up in Michigan. As part of her stand-up she took some time to rip on former eBay CEO Meg Whitman. Kathleen said that Whitman spent over $140 million on her campaign for the governor of California. Kathleen pointed out that she did not know how she felt about the “head of the Oompa Loompas” becoming governor of California. Whitman is a billionaire, Madigan pointed out, she should spend some of her money on getting new hair. I was cracking up during this segment of the stand-up and though I had to share this on Pulse2 when I got home.
