According to a tweet sent out by Google Mobile Ads, AdMob has served over 300 billion ads since they launched in 2007. Apple was close to buying out AdMob, but Google made a deal happen much quicker. Based on the number of ads served, I think Google got their money’s worth after spending $850 million in stock to buy them out in November 2009.

Linden Lab, the parent company of Second Life is having some issues. The founder of the company Philip Rosedale has stepped down. He was the interim CEO after Mark Kingdon quit in June. Linden Lab CFO/COO Bob Komin will take over temporarily. In a blog post, Rosedale wrote “it’s been an intense few months of transition, and we all feel like we are in a better place now, with a clearer sense of direction and more focus, and are ready to bring someone new into the mix as a leader.” This past June Linden Lab also laid off about 30% of their staff. Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) has acquired Chillingo, the gaming company that developed Angry Birds. The acquisition was made for about $20 million in cash according to a source with Reuters. Angry Birds was one of the fastest selling games on the Apple App Store and they recently released the game for Android free of charge. By releasing the game for free on Android, they saw about 2 million downloads in 3 days. “By acquiring Chillingo, EA Mobile is increasing its market leadership on the Apple Platform as well as reaffirming its position as the world’s leading wireless entertainment publisher,” stated a spokesperson for EA.
