Even though there has been plenty of singing robots out there, the HRP-4C dances, syncs with back-up dancers, bobs its head, and uses hand movements. The HRP-4C was developed at the Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Japan. Masataka Goto, the head of the interactive media group at the institute said that he hopes someday robots will be used by the entertainment industry. American video game development company Valve Corporation has announced that their online gaming platform Steam has surpassed 30 million accounts. This is the platform’s 6th year in a row of over 100% growth in unit sales versus the previous year. This year they have seen almost 200% growth. Part of this year’s growth is because of the launch of Mac OS X support.

According to the New York Post, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) may spend up to $500 million to promote the Kinect controller for the Xbox 360. The money will be spent on ads and sponsorships. The $500 million budget is the same amount spent to promote the original Xbox console itself back in July 2000.

Because of this, PlayFirst raised $9.2 million in venture capital funding. PlayFirst plans to use the funding to increase their agility in the social and mobile gaming space according to VentureBeat. Mayfield Fund, Trinity Partners, DCM, and Rustic Canyon Ventures put in $5.2 million in this round. Comerica Bank invested $4 million in debt financing.

Causes is an online philanthropy service that was started by Joe Green and Sean Parker. Causes recently raised $9 million in Series C funding from Founders Fund, Marc Benioff, Dustin Moskovitz, Karl Jacob, Keith Rabois, and Ron Conway. Scott Sandell will also be joining as an observer on the Causes board of directors. Green said that the company plans to use the funding for building their team.
