Remember Kazaa? It was the P2P network that sprang out of nowhere after Napster was shut down by the RIAA where people shared music and movies. The original company to develop Kazaa sold the application to Sharman Networks. Then the movie and music industry executives promptly sued Sharman.

Internet billionaire Mark Cuban is one of several angel investors that have put money in BlueCava. BlueCava is a company whose plans is to develop unique IDs for computers, mobile devices, and many other devices. BlueCava aims to have these unique IDs replace cookies. This way users can be tracked using these IDs. From an Internet user stand-point, consumers would have the opportunity to opt out of certain ways from being tracked. This round of funding was $5 million.

Mozilla has hired Gary Kovacs as their new CEO. Mozilla hired Kovacs about six months after previous CEO John Lilly said he would be leaving to join VC firm Greylock Partners. Kovacs is currently an SVP at SAP’s mobile division. Kovacs had stints at Adobe and Macromedia as well. Open source web browser Mozilla Firefox had quickly taken away market share from Microsoft Internet Explorer only to see Google introduce a solid browser of their own called Chrome. Google has been a major investor in Mozilla since they launched the Firefox browser.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is investing in a deepwater transmission line project that may cost up to $5 billion throughout the next 10 years. The transmission lines would also run about 20 miles offshore from Virginia to New Jersey. The initial part of the project would be able to create 2,000 megawatts of wind energy. This wind energy could power about 500,000 homes.
