Sony’s Stock Rallied Then Retreated After Apple Acquisition Rumor

Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) shares rose about 3% yesterday but then retreated again after speculation that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may buy them out and has them as a potential target. The source of the rumor was a report on Barron’s, written by Eric Savitz. Savitz responded to the speculation by saying “In the piece I noted that the company could do something aggressive, like bidding for Adobe, Sony or even Disney. But that was pure speculation. Yeesh.” Apple has about $51 billion in cash. [Reuters]

Cloudera has raised $25 million in a third round of funding. The funding was led by Meritech Capital Partners. Other investors include Accel Partners and Greylock Partners. The company has raised a total of $36 million.

Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) said that Adobe Flash Player 10.1 will be added to BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7 devices. Adobe announced this at the MAX conference. The plug-in will also be added to WebOS 2.0, Symbian, MeeGo, and the LiMo platform. However there is no word on when the plug-in will hit each platform. [Engadget]

Mark Cuban is one of the craziest billionaires in the world. He is offering to finance an investigation against himself… The SEC is investigating Cuban for an insider trading case and they told him that their lawyers could take up to 8 months to look into the full investigation. Cuban wants the case to speed up so he is offering to fund part of it himself. The SEC told Mark that they hope to get their lawyers started on the case by next March so that the documents are ready to go by 2012. Cuban would pay the overtime fees for the lawyers or retaining lawyers on a freelance basis. [New York Post]

Well… obviously Antoine Dodson makes the perfect spokesperson for the sex offender tracking application. Dodson gained Internet fame after a response he gave to a news channel when a rapist broke into his house. Known as the Bed Intruder video, Dodson’s response has been seen by millions of viewers. Then the Gregory Brothers took that video and remixed it into a song. Dodson received 50% of the profits on iTunes for the song and he was able to move out of the unsafe house he was in before. Social bookmarking company Digg.com is laying off 25 people. They have about 67 employees and now they will be down to 42. One of the key executives that Digg.com is losing includes chief revenue office Chas Edwards. Digg plans to refocus on the Digg.com product going forward. The company earned $15 million and is not profitable this year. Digg.com hopes to reach profitability by mid-2011.

Ford Is Investing $850 Million Across Their Michigan Facilities

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) has announced today that they are investing $850 million across their Michigan facilities over the next 3 years. This will create 1,200 jobs. Of these 1,200 jobs, 900 jobs will be hourly and 300 will be salaried. The investments will be spread through the Van Dyke transmission plant, Sterling Axle, the Livonia transmission plant, and the Dearborn Truck plants. The plants receiving the investment will be assembling six-speed transmissions. All Ford vehicles will have six-speed by 2013 according to The Detroit News. [Detroit News]
