Google Buzz Settlement Will Cost The Search Company $8.5 Million

The way that Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) integrated Buzz into their services was terrible. They attempted to combine photos, Facebook, Twitter, photos, and other social media content into Gmail without a backlash. Making things worse, Google attempted to automatically populate a list of Buzz friends by using knowledge about who you e-mailed the most in Gmail. This was a huge privacy issue and many privacy complaints followed with the FTC in the form of a class action lawsuit.

This class action lawsuit against Google led to an $8.5 million settlement. Google is giving this money to an independent fund which will support organizations that promote privacy education and policy on the web.
