Alicia Keys Convinces Celebrity Buddies To Shut Down Facebook and Twitter Accounts For Charity

R&B singer Alicia Keys has convinced some of her celebrity friends to quit Twitter and Facebook for a charity called Keep a Child Alive that would benefit families affected by HIV/AIDs across Africa and India.

Some celebrities that have quit Twitter and Facebook as part of the charity include Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian. The campaign is called Digital Life Sacrifice and it starts on December 1st. The goal of the campaign is to raise $1 million.

Other celebrities participating in the cause include Jennifer Hudson, Serena Williams, Elijah Wood, Usher, Khloe Kardashian, Swizz Beatz, and Ryan Seacrest. With 7.2 million followers on Twitter, “I have a feeling that GaGa is going to raise it all by herself,” stated Keep a Child Alive President and Co-Founder Leigh Blake.

Really cool idea! Nice to see a celeb come up with a more interesting way to raise money!

Interesting way to raise money; I like the creativity. I bet it will be pretty effective too! Question though, are the celebrities quitting social media for 24 hours in hopes of getting only their followers to donate, or are they themselves donating as well? I hope they are also making generous donations; definitely a well-worthy cause!
