Salesforce.com Launches Database.com

Salesforce.com has launched a new service called Database.com. Database.com has a plug-and-play storage infrastructure that works with any language, platform, or device.

Salesforce.com’s Database.com is one of the largest enterprise databases that contain over 20 billion records. Database.com sees over 25 billion transactions per quarter at an average response time of 300 milliseconds.

“We see cloud databases as a massive market opportunity that will power the shift to real-time enterprise applications that are natively cloud, mobile and social,” said Salesforce.com CEO and founder Marc Benioff.

Developers that use Database.com can write applications in Java, C#, Ruby on Rails, PHP, etc. Applications can also run natively on any tablet or smartphone device. These apps can call Database.com APIs.

Database.com users include user management, row-level security, triggers, stored procedures, APIs, etc. Relational data capabilities include tables, relationships, field types, etc.

Database.com is free for 3 users and up to 100,000 records with 50,000 transactions per month. Database.com charges $10 per month for each set of 100,000 records after that. Below are a couple screenshots.
