Why PayPal Blocked The Wikileaks Account

The PayPal account for Wikileaks was shut-down and people were wondering whether the U.S. government pressured the eBay-owned finance service to do it. While on stage, PayPal VP of Platform Osama Bedier indicated that the government did pressure the company to do it. Bedier said that PayPal’s decision was influenced by the State Department deeming Wikileaks as illegal in a letter sent on November 27th. Offstage, Bedier did an interview where he clarified that the State Department did not directly talk to PayPal. The letter was sent from the government to Wikileaks. [TechCrunch]
