Microsoft Acknowledges Facebook Acquisition Attempt

On stage at the Le Web conference in Paris, France, Microsoft’s Senior Director of Corporate Strategy and Acquisitions Fritz Lanman acknowledged that his company attempted to buy out Facebook. “Yeah we tried to acquire Facebook” said Lanman in an interview with Le Web founder Loic Le Meur, Facebook had a lot of similarities to Microsoft back in the day.”

It is rumored that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer offered Mark Zuckerberg $15 billion. After Zuckerberg turned down the offer, Microsoft invested $240 million into Facebook at that valuation. Microsoft and Facebook now have a strategic relationship where Bing is the default search engine for the social network.
