Toshiba Severely Affected By Split Second Power Outage In Plant

At a Toshiba Yokkaichi memory chip plant, there was a power disruption that took place for 0.07 seconds. This may have caused a 20% drop in chip shipments from Toshiba according to The Wall Street Journal. The back-up system at Toshiba’s memory chip plant failed to kick in due to a brief drop in voltage. The drop in voltage was more than what the system was designed for which caused the plant to halt production until Friday. It is unclear how much damage was actually caused. Toshiba will adjust their output accordingly for early next year. [WSJ]
