Spring Design’s lawsuit against Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) will go on. Spring Design filed a lawsuit against Barnes & Noble because they said the Nook electronic tablet reader was illegally copying their screen design. Spring Design said that Barnes & Noble is allegedly misappropriating trade secrets, violating breach of contract, and is competing unfairly. U.S. District Judge James Ware refused to throw out the case. Spring Design announced a lawsuit against Barnes & Noble in November 2009. The price of the Nook starts at $149. The Apple iPad has a 10 hour battery life and the Samsung Galaxy Tab has a 6 hour battery life. Because of this issue, we may not see the BlackBerry PlayBook until May 2011. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been known for allowing certain applications in the App Store that violates their own rules. In one case, Apple rejected an app called Camera+ that let users take a photo with a the volume button on the iPhone. Apple recently approved an app that has the same function called Quick Snap [iTunes Link]. “Your application cannot be added to the App Store because it uses iPhone volume buttons in a non-standard way, potentially resulting in user confusion,” said Apple in an e-mail to Camera+’s developer Tap Tap Tap. “Changing the behavior of iPhone external hardware buttons is a violation of the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement.” [Wired]
