Facebook is sending a message to game developers on their social network that “Facebook Credits” will be required and exclusive currency. The rule is going into effect on July 1, 2011. Facebook Credits will be “real money” used for games to purchase in-game currency like FarmBucks, FishPoints, CityCash etc.

The incentive for game developers to use Facebook Credits is that items sold in the forms of credits will be promoted on the Facebook Games dashboard. The games using Facebook Credits will also be eligible for targeted ads.

Facebook has been testing Credits in beta with 150 developers across a large range of games. The reason why they are giving 5 months of advanced notice is so that developers can express their opinion about the changes and adjust their games accordingly.

Facebook takes about a 30% cut from sales of Facebook Credits. Rumor has it that Zynga is paying Facebook $30 million per month from Facebook Credits sales.
