Indian Daily Deals Website SnapDeal.com Raises $12 Million
SnapDeal.com is the “Groupon of India.” The company supports major cities in across the Asian subcontinent. Some of the group coupons I have noticed include massage, hair cuts, Pizza Hut, beer deals, etc. SnapDeal.com has raised $12 million in a round led by Nexus Venture Partners and IndoUS Venture Partners.
SnapDeal.com displays the value of the purchase and how much of a discount you are getting. Each deal lets customers read a summary about the business and read customer reviews. SnapDeal.com has over one million subscribers and they have about a 70% market share of the online coupon sector in India.
“India is a country full of small and medium businesses offering consumer services and goods,” stated Nexus Managing Director. “Snapdeal is already emerging as the leading online couponing site in India for these local businesses in over 30 cities across India.” About 300 people currently work at SnapDeal.com and they are working with 50 cities. The only thing I don’t like about SnapDeals.com is that the look and feel of the website seems very cluttered. LivingSocial and Groupon’s daily deals information and packages look much cleaner.
Groupon.com recently acquired a smaller Indian clone called SoSasta. SoSasta launched about 3 months ago and works with 11 cities in India. This article was written by Amit Chowdhry. You can follow me at @amitchowdhry or on Google+ at +AmitChowdhry
