60+ Instant Messenger Programs and Software Available For Download

Instant messaging is the most sophisticated way to communicate over the Internet. Almost every social network has their own chatting programs built in and millions of people still stay in touch through AOL Instant Messenger since it came out in the 1990s. There are many different programs out there with instant messaging capabilities and sometimes it is difficult to choose one. Below is a list of 60+ instant messenger programs and software available for download.

1. Adium – Adium is a free IM software made for Mac OS X that works with AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo!, Facebook, etc.

2. Agile Messenger – Agile Messenger is an all-in-one mobile IM client that works with AIM, Yahoo!, ICQ, and Google Talk.

3. aMSN – aMSN is a free and open source MSN Messenger clone that works on Linux. aMSN has offline messaging, voice clips, multi-language support, webcam, group support, chat logs, timestamping, event alerts, tabbed chat windows, and conferencing support.

4. AIM – AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) was one of the original instant messaging services. Ever since this service launched in the 90’s, AOL had added texting, voice, and video conferencing to the service. AIM now works on the iPhone, Android, iPad, Mac, and Windows.

8. BitWise IM – Bitwise IM is an encrypted cross-platform instant messaging software for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.  You can chat, transfer files, share a whiteboard, and do voice conversations with BitWise.

9. Centericq – Centericq is a Windows-driven IM software that supports ICQ2000, Yahoo!, AIM, IRC, MSN, Gadu-Gadu, and Jabber.

10. Coccinella – Coccinella is a free and open-source cross-platform instant messaging software that lets you share a whiteboard for collaboration.
