The video above captures a scene where the door of a Metro North train remained open for 2.5 minutes and nobody cared. More surprisingly, there was a dark-haired man with glasses that stood just inches away from the open door and he was not phased at all. The Metro-North officials said that the footage in this YouTube video is “very disturbing” and that conductors should be notified if this happens again.

Social document sharing company Scribd has raised $13 million in a series C of funding. Recently Scribd started selling e-books and printed copies of some of the documents that they host. “2011 is going to be a milestone year for us,” stated Scribd CEO and co-founder Trip Adler. “As the world rapidly changes the way it reads, we are rapidly preparing to change the way we deliver what they read.” Scribd reaches about 60 million readers every month. This round of funding was led by MLC Investments and SVB Capital. Scribd has raised a total of $25.8 million.

You may recognize this 1955 truck from the movie The Expendables. The truck went to the highest bidder at a car auction in Arizona this weekend for $132,000. The truck was built by West Coast Customs and it has a new Ford 347cid Edelbrock engine. The truck has “hidden compartments to hold for movie weapons.”

Reports have been flooding about the Internet in Egypt going down just hours before the largest planned protest. “Egypt has shut off the internet,” according to The Arabist. Multiple internet services in Egypt are being affected. “No internet, no SMS, what is next? Mobile phones and land lines? So much for stability. #Jan25 #Egypt,” tweeted CNN reporter Ben Wedeman. BlackBerry Internet has been taken down too.

Plum District is a daily deals website that is focused on moms. Plum District has raised $8.5 million in Series A funding led by Kleiner Perkins. Some of the daily deals include children’s clothing, portrait photography, etc. This is the first daily deals website I have heard of that is focused on moms, but the business model is very similar to Groupon and LivingSocial.
