Panasonic Announces The Lumix FX78

Panasonic has announced the Lumix FX78. The FX78 ultracompact camera has an f2.5-5.9 24mm equivalent wide-angle lens with a 5x zoom. Other specs include 3.5-inch touch-screen LCD and a 12-megapixel high speed CCD sensor. It has a Venus Engine FHD processor with a full resolution of 3.7 frames per second. The camera has HD movie capture in AVCHD format. The FX78 can shoot 20 shots and it picks the best two for creating a 3D MPO file. This can be played on 3D-enabled TVs. The FX78 will be available this March in black, gold, and white. The price is not yet known.

Video Game Streaming Service Playcast Raises $10 Million

Playcast is a cloud-based service that lets you play high-end video games without the need for a console. Playcast has raised $10 million in Series B funding. MK Capital led the round of funding. Playcast previously raised $2 million funding in 2009. Currently Playcast is based in Portugal and they plan on expanding to Asia and Western Europe soon. The funding will be spent on expanding distribution agreements.

Tal Golesworth is a British engineer that received a heart implant that he designed himself. Golesworth suffers from Marfan Syndrome, which is an inherited connective-tissue disorder that could rupture cardiac vales. The standard way to treat the disease is by using a mechanical aortic valve, which would require a heart-lung bypass and he would have to take the Warfarin blood thinner for the rest of his life. Golesworth decided to create his own implant to reduce the risk of blood clots. He would no longer need blood thinners either.

Novartis is a Swiss pharmaceutical company that has acquired American oncology lab Genoptix for $470 million in cash. Novartis will be paying $25 for each share of Genoptix which is a 27% premium above the stock’s closing price of $19.76 on Friday.

Logitech has announced the Wireless Couch Mouse M515 for $49.99. The M515 gets its name because it works when you are sitting on leather couches unlike many other computer mice. The mouse uses hand detection to move around the cursor. The battery supposedly will last two years also.

If you record a police officer doing something questionable, then you could have some problems of your own. In Illinois, a sixty-year old Chicago artist named Christopher Drew is facing an eavesdropping charge for recording his arrest. He was arrested for “selling art without a permit” and could do 15 years for recording the arrest. Tiawanda Moore is another example. Moore is a 20 year old former stripper who recorded a conversation that she had with a police officer. Investigators tried to talk her out of filing a complaint against the officer saying that they would guarantee that she would not be bothered again.
