Digital Publisher Company Vook Raises $5.25 Million

Vook is a digital publisher company that has raised $5.25 million in Series A funding from VantagePoint Venture Partners and Floodgate. Vook publishes iPad, iPhone, Android book apps, and multimedia Kindle books. Vook has partnerships with Deepak Chopra, Seth Godin, and Tom Peters. Vook was founded in 2008 by Bradley Inman. Vook has raised $2.5 million in seed funding from Ron Conway, Baseline Ventures, Founder Collective, Maples Investments, and Lerer Ventures.
AOL To Launch An iPad Magazine Called Editions [VIDEO]
AOL is preparing to launch a digital iPad magazine called “Editions,” which will most likely be different from the News Corp. digital magazine known as The Daily. The Editions motto is: “The Magazine That Reads You.” The Editions app will be very similar to Flipboard. Editions will find content that you like based on your interests. FanBridge Acquires DamnTheRadio As They Raise $2 Million

FanBridge is a relationship management service commonly used by musicians, athletes, celebrities, etc. FanBridge has raised $2 million in Series A funding and has acquired Facebook fan management company Damntheradio. Angel investors Jeff Clavier, Chris Sacca, and Dave McClure provided FanBridge with $350,000 in seed capital around March 2009.

AOL Rumored To Be In Talks For An Acquisition Of Outside.in

Rumor has is that AOL is in talks to acquire local news aggregation company Outside.in. The talks may fall apart since it is in early stages according to BusinessInsider. Steven Johnson founded Outside.in in 2006. Investors in Outside.in include Union Square Ventures, Marc Andreessen, John Borthwick, Esther Dyson, and CNN. If AOL does end up acquiring Outside.in, it is likely that they will roll the technology into Patch.com.
Melanie Spanopoulos Hits Her Cousin With A Car Twice Over A Facebook Friend Request

Long Island resident Melanie Spanopoulos hit her cousin Giselle Penagos with a mini-van and tried to drive over her twice. The reason for the feud is because a man rejected Melanie’s Facebook friend request, but he accepted Giselle’s request. Melanie is being charged with assault and was released on a $20,000 bail.

Amgen, a human therapeutics company that focuses on advances in recombinant DNA will be acquiring BioVex Group for $1 billion. BioVex is a biotechnology company that works on the treatment of cancer.

Israeli Woman Gets Caught Trying To Smuggle 44 iPhones On An Airplane [HALL OF SHAME]

At the Ben-Gurion International Airport, an Israeli woman was caught trying to smuggle 44 iPhone devices under her clothes. She even stuffed some of them in her stockings. The woman was in her 60′s and was returning from London. The full-body scanners detected the 44 phones under her clothes, which happened to be a traditional Georgian outfit. She looked like she was walking with difficulty so that is how she got the attention from Customs. Looks like we have another Hall of Shame here.
Amazon Acquires “Netflix Of Europe” Company LOVEFiLM.com

Recently Amazon.com has acquired LOVEFiLM International Limited. LOVEFiLM is known as the Netflix of Europe where people across the continent to rent movies and games through the mail or stream movies on demand. LOVEFiLM streaming movies work on Internet-enabled TVs and the PlayStation 3. This acquisition gives Amazon.com a stronger presence abroad.
Online Mailing Label Company Zadspace Raises $4.2 Million

Zadspace is an online mailing label advertising and packaging company that has raised $4.2 million. It is unknown who the investors are, but we do know that DFJ Frontier and Crosscut Ventures are existing investors in the company. Zadspace is led by Todd Outten.
50 Cent Aims To Take Down WorldStarHipHop.com [VIDEO]

50 Cent is not too pleased with WorldStarHipHop.com. He sent out a tweet to his 3.8 million followers about how he got the website shut down by Homeland Security. The website went down temporarily, but was back online within 24 hours. The founder of WorldStarHipHop.com said it was a problem with his servers. “I don’t know why people underestimate me. I just shut down WORLDSTAR for future advertising contact thisis50.com suckers lol,” said 50 Cent in a couple of tweets. “I put worldstar to bed, you don’t believe try me I will shut your shit down. Lol.” 50 Cent said that WorldStarHipHop.com uses 50 Cent’s content and images without permission and he filed a lawsuit against them in November 2009.
