Ybrant Digital is an Indian based online marketing company that plans on going public this year. The company has raised $48 million in a new round of funding, putting them at a total of about $100 million. This round was a combination of debt and equity. Oak India Investments, an affiliate of Oak Investment Partners participated in this round. Current investors Asia Pacific Capital and ICICI Bank also participated in this round. This is Ybrant’s fourth round of funding.
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) has hired Will.i.am as the director of creative innovation. Will.i.am is one of the main singers of the pop group The Black Eyed Peas. Will.i.am will help Intel work on music technology and provide input for phones, tablets, and laptops. “Its official. I just became the director of creative innovation for Intel. Every beat I make is made with intel. And now were partners,” said Will.i.am on Twitter. The multi-year contract he signed with Intel is similar to a deal that Kodak has in place with Lady Gaga.
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) CEO Eric Schmidt is stepping down from the CEO position in April, but he will remain as an executive chairman. Schmidt said that he plans to spend another 10 years at Google. As an executive chairman, Schmidt will be focusing on M&A and government outreach. Schmidt said “I’m very personally excited about my next decade at Google” at the DLD media conference in Munich. Schmidt will be receiving a $100 million equity award for running the company since 2001.
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has acquired fflick for $10 million. Fflick uses Twitter to automatically create movie reviews based on sentiment and recommendations. It is uncertain whether Google is making this acquisition to absorb the talent behind the company or if they are actually interested in fflick’s service. When you sign in to your Twitter account by visiting fflick, it shows you a list of top-ranking movies. Next to the picture of each movie poster, there is a set of tweets that are relevant to the people that you follow on Twitter. You can choose whether you want to view the positive or negative tweets about each movie. fflick was founded by former Digg employees Kurt Wilms, Ron Gorodetzky, Dav Zimak, and Marc Hemeon.
Facebook has acquired Rel8tion, a mobile advertising company that is based in Seattle and is in stealth mode. Rel8tion’s mobile ads are intended to be hyper-local. “We’re excited to confirm that we recently completed a talent acquisition of Rel8tion, a stealth-mode startup in Seattle. The engineering team will join our growing Seattle office, and we’re looking forward to having them on board,” said Facebook in a statement.
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has acquired SayNow, a service that makes phone calls more interesting. For example, Smule’s I Am T-Pain application lets you click on “T-Pain Dialier” so that you can send a recorded auto-tuned message to a friend through the phone using SayNow.
Pixelmator, a photo editing software that sells for about $30 per download, has made $1 million from the Mac App Store in only 20 days. The photo editing application has also received some positive reviews on the Mac App Store. The company has an average of 4.5 stars with over 275 ratings in the U.S. store.
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has announced that you can now port your existing mobile number to Google Voice. To set it up, log in to your Google Voice account and click the Settings page. From there click on the Change/Port option next to the Google Voice number. Porting your phone number to Google Voice costs $20 and can be completed within 24 hours. However you may incur early termination charges based on what your current wireless carrier charges. You may want to double-check whether your contract terms have expired or not.
