Hackers Broke Into Nasdaq’s Computer Networks

Over the past year, hackers have been able to break into the computer network that runs the Nasdaq stock market. Federal investigators are looking into why the hackers were doing it. Fortunately the computer network where trades are executed was not compromised.

Investigators have not been able to find out what other parts of the Nasdaq computer networks were hacked into. They are also looking into what the hacker’s goals are whether it was unlawful financial gain, trade secret thefts, or a national-security threat.

Someone involved in the Nasdaq situation said that the hackers appear to have just been looking around. Both the Secret Service and the FBI are involved in the investigation.

“We take any potential threat seriously and we are continually working to ensure that our systems operate at the highest levels of security and integrity,” said NYSE Euronext spokesperson Ray Pellecchia.
