The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has invested $2 million in social media education company Inigral. Inigral created an app on Facebook called Schools and this is the first time that the Foundation made a direct equity investment in a for-profit company.
“Our Schools App can increase a student’s sense of belonging and integration within an institution, lowering the chances of attrition,” stated Inigral co-founder and CEO Michael Staton. “What we do is make sure that when students arrive they either already have assembled or [can] very quickly assemble that kind of peer support.”
The Schools application turns Facebook back into the way it was where you need a school e-mail address to sign up. Then the student can interact with clubs and campus organizations to discuss admission and campus-related issues/events.
