Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has announced new subscription plans for consumers that use Android tablets and smartphones. Google one-upped Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) by offering publishers 90% revenues or more. Apple offers publishers 70% revenues. The subscription service is called Google One Pass. Google CEO Eric Schmidt made the announcement at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

The subscriptions use single sign-on with e-mail and password. Publishers authenticate existing subscribers so that readers don’t have to keep re-subscribing. They will be automatically billed. Google One Pass is currently available for publishers in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, Spain, and the U.S.

According to AdAge.com, a Google spokesperson said publishers will retain “within the range of 90%” of the subscription price. Google did not clarify what determines the range.
