GetJar is an independent mobile software store that has raised $25 million in funding from Tiger Global Management and Accel Partners. GetJar has a major focus on pushing into the Android market. “GetJar plans to aggressively expand its offering to Android publishers in order to secure its position as the premier ‘open’ Android Market alternative,” stated GetJar. Facebook has poached Carolyn Everson, the head of Microsoft global advertising. Everson will be the VP of Global Sales at Facebook. Everson joined Microsoft last June itself. Everson will be replacing Mike Murphy and will report to David Fischer.

Today Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) announced a new subscription service for all content-based apps including magazines, newspapers, music, video, etc. This is similar to the billing service that Apple launched with “The Daily” made by News Corp. Bill Ackman’s investment firm Pershing Square has filed a 13F that discloses some of their latest investments. Ackman bought $261 million worth of shares (around 7 million) in General Motors Company (NYSE:GM). Ackman is also known for major investments in Target and Borders Group. He is also a huge investor in J.C. Penney.

Catch.com has raised $7 million in Series A funding led by Excel Venture Management. Catch.com plans on using the funding to accelerate the development of their notes applications. Catch.com started in 2008 and is based in San Francisco. They have seen 13 million downloads on Android phones for their apps that include Catch Notes, Compass, and AK Notepad. The Kno tablet is getting close to pre-orders. They are about 60 days away even though it was rumored that they would ship last year. This puts the pre-order availability around the middle of April. The Kno raised about $46 million around September 2010. The Kno will offer students digital textbooks at lower prices. Kno was founded by Babur Habib and Osman Rashi, who also founded Chegg.
