Facebook Acquires Group Messaging Company Beluga

Facebook has acquired the technology and hired the team behind Beluga. Beluga is a mobile group messaging company service that is similar to GroupMe. All 3 employees at Beluga used to work at Google. Facebook bought the company at the right time because they were close to raising angel funding.

Beluga will continue to function as it does today. All accounts and data will remain in place. The plans for the Beluga will be determined in the coming weeks. It is likely that Beluga’s technology will be integrated in a mobile group messaging service built internally at Facebook.
