Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is not going to release a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Tab or the Apple iPad until the back-to-school 2012 season according to a BusinessWeek source. Microsoft will be working with partners and customers during a trial phase at the end of this year.
Microsoft is also updating a version of the Windows 7 operating system that is optimized for tablets. This version will have touch screen features. Microsoft is running a bit behind considering that Apple launched the iPad 2, Samsung has launched several tablets, the Motorola Xoom will be out soon, and Research In Motion is gearing up for the launch of the PlayBook.
