Google Makes Exceptions To Wrongly Demoted Websites Despite Antitrust Probe Arguments
Matt Cutts, the head of the webspam team at Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has admitted that the search engine company often uses “exception lists” to prevent algorithms from affecting certain websites. This contradicts what Google’s lawyers said to European Union antitrust regulators.
Last year European Union antitrust regulators investigated whether Google had unfairly manipulated search results to benefit themselves over competitors. Google European corporate counsel Julia Holtz said that the company does not whitelist or blacklist anyone.
The antitrust complaint was brought attention to the European Union by UK-based vertial search engine Foundem. Foundem was removed from Google after they introduced a new algorithm that demoted vertical search engines. Some vertical search engines were not removed so Foundem believed that they were whitelisted.@amitchowdhry or on Google+ at +AmitChowdhry
