Twitter To Developers: Do Not Build Apps That Reproduce Mainstream Consumer Client Experience

Twitter has told third-party developers not to build Twitter clients that compete with the mainstream consumer client experience. Ryan Sarver of Twitter said “Developers ask us if they should build client apps that mimic or reproduce the mainstream Twitter consumer client experience. The answer is no.” Twitter co-founder Evan Williams defended the company decision to launch their own clients because users get confused by the number of clients that are out there. Third party developers can keep making clients, but they will be held at “high standards.” [TechCrunch]
