Sony Acquires Cricket and Tennis Ball Tracking Company Hawk-Eye

Sony has acquired Hawk-Eye Ltd, a United Kingdom based company that tracks balls in cricket, tennis, football, and snooker. Hawk-Eye provides the ball tracking technology to sporting events and broadcasters. Sony hopes that “Hawk-Eye’s capabilities, based on vision processing and triangulation, coupled with Sony’s established leadership in AV production and B2B solutions will enable the delivery of leading managed services and innovative solutions for Sports Stadia and Broadcasters.” Hawk-Eye is famous for spotting the projection of balls in cricket and Wimbledon tennis games.
