AT&T Blocking Unauthorized Tethering iPhones
AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has been sending out e-mails that says “records show that you use [tethering] but are not subscribed to our tethering plan.” There are several jailbreaking applications that allows the iPhone to use unauthorized tethering such as MyWi. MyWi bypasses the plan check on AT&T phones and creates a wireless hotspot on teh iPhone. This allows other devices to connect to the Internet through the iPhone like netbooks and laptops.
Up until recently, people believed that AT&T did not care about traffic that came from a connected device. Nope. The letter says that people can either terminate their unauthorized tethering usage or they will be automatically added to AT&T’s DataPro plan that allows users to tether for an increased price of $20 per month.
